Day-32

Finally
beating Nevada...
We got on the bikes and hauled-ass to make up the time we
had lost. While the terrain was beautiful and the riding
fun it seemed like every time we set up a shot it either took forever
or I had a really rough line, making it hard to keep up with James.
This really started to wear on me. James and I actually ended up getting
into it with each other a few times. We had to stop and try
to fix James' gas tank again which as always ate up a ton
of time. All this combined with the continually oppressive sage brush
and the intense heat made it another trying day.
Still
I couldn't ignore the beauty of the ride and the how amazing it was
that the landscape changed almost on cue with our crossing into different
states. We had a brief dip into California which was mountainous but
still pretty barren looking. The dust so bad at one point that we
had to space out about two hundred yards from each other just to be
able to see. Sometimes the dust seemed like it would never settle
and I had to try to use the force to keep going.
Finally
we headed up into the mountains and away from the brush and dust.
As we neared the state line and into Oregon trees became more numerous
and soon we were in towering forests. I felt much more at home with
all the foliage around me and felt like I could really relax for the
first time in many days. We crossed into Oregon the last step in our
long journey and they way I was feeling it seemed like it was going
to be a victory lap.
