Lake
City Colorado to Monticello Utah...
Steven’s
cleaned his air filter and thrown some carb cleaner in his gas and
he’s ready to join Michael and I as we leave the beautiful Lake
City. There are very few places that we have come across
that are as quaint as Lake City Colorado. It’s a bit of a tourist
spot, but it’s not as bad as some places and it really is beautiful.
It’s like an old wild west town that’s still alive in
the 2000’s with fun restaurants, inns, and bars to go to. And
it’s located in this tiny little valley between enormous Rocky
Mountains. But nonetheless we ride on.
We
climbed some really fun passes today including Cinnamon Pass, California
Gulch and Ophir Pass. Today was full of amazing scenery, great riding
with a few jumps and stream crossings for good measure. The
only embarrassment came when I crashed my bike because a Marmot freaked
me out by jumping back and forth in front of me.
One
of the highlights of the day came when Steven and I climbed a snow
drift on the top of Cinnamon Pass. We then turned
around and slid on our butts down the snow drift and I had the miss
fortune to hit a rock under the snow with my tail bone. OUCH!!!
Ophir
Pass looks like an alien planet with no life, millions of
rocks and the Black Mountains of Mordor lingering in the distance.
We soon crossed into Utah as the sun went down and found our chase
vehicle in Monticello Utah.
