Salida
to Lake City Colorado...
So
it’s time to leave Salida Colorado. It’s been great place
to stay and ride around, but we’ve gotta make it to the Pacific
Ocean. We had a heck of a time trying to find our way out
of town and back onto the Trans-Am Trail for some reason, and when
we finally did, Steven’s air filter, full of dirt, bogged out
on him. So we called up the chase vehicle and they brought us lunch
and then hauled Steven away. While the crew and Steven go to a local
4-wheeler shop to get some more foam oil and foam cleaner to take
care of his bike, Michael and I rode off to Marshall Pass on our own.
Riding
over Marshall Pass was a lot of fun. Sometimes it’s necessary
to step off the trail markers and go explore the area trails and this
was one of those times. It was beautiful on the Continental
Divide at Marshall Pass so I had to take advantage of some
of the cool little trails and go explore a little.
Meanwhile,
Steven, Chris and Mathew rode a sky lift to the top of the Continental
Divide on another mountain top. During which, Michael and I were flying
over really fast open dirt roads. The trail between Salida and Lake
City has a lot of landscape that looks like what I imagine Scotland
to be. We were reaching our fastest speeds, over 90 mph across
wide open plains and straight dirt roads with no speed limits.
Just an hour outside of Lake City, nature called and I had to go find
a bush to hide behind. While I was in one of the most compromising
positions a person can be in, a bull walked out and stared me down.
Not much I could do about it and luckily he walked away. We made it
into Lake City as the last bit of light was in the sky.
