Catch
up-ride, lightning and the Rainbow Trail...
After
the terrible storm two days earlier, we decided to ride back to Cotopaxi
to pick up the section of the trail we missed because of the lightning.
My motorcycle is having problems, the carb keeps leaking gasoline.
So I had to ride back to the hotel in Salida to try to fix what I
think is a sticky float. Steven took over the rolls charts for the
first time and navigated the section of the trail without his big
brother. Steven’s Knee is doing great.
While
I was working on the bike, Steven and Michael showed up, both happy
after their nice ride. I continued to work on the bike as fast as
I could because we were supposed to meet up with a guy who’s
going to take us on the Rainbow trail and I didn’t want to miss
out just because of my carb. As I was working, a storm swept over
us and I pushed my bike under the overhang of the hotel for safety
while I continued to work on the carburetor. Soon after, a white flash
and a thunderous clap assaulted me as I was blown off my bike
against the wall of the hotel - I
had just been struck by lightning.
Surprisingly
enough, I didn’t seem to have pain or after-effects. So I got
back to work on my bike and by the time Rodney showed up to take us
on the Rainbow trail, I knew nothing was going to stop me from riding
this trail! The adventure of this day wasn’t over by a long
shot.
