Leaving
Oklahoma for New Mexico & Colorado...
Today
we rode through the last part of Oklahoma through
fields of Sunflowers and rutty dirt roads. When we crossed
into New Mexico, it seemed as if the State Line was drawn out from
nature as the environment seemed to change right at the state line.
New Mexico was full of great riding. There are lots of Antelope, Grey
Fox, and Cattle. New Mexico is full of red rock and sweeping dirt
roads. The trail took us into a valley between hillsides… at
the end of New Mexico, the trail lead us to a great switch back section
climbing a mesa into Colorado. The switchback trail was some of the
most fun riding we’d had on the Trans-Am Trail since we started
in Tennessee. It was full of jumps and rocks and ruts and 180-degree
turns on the side of this mesa.
We
crossed the state line of Colorado and came into very small town named
Branson. We were absolutely starving when we got to Branson. Our hope
was that we’d find some food from some kind of shop, but there
was no store in sight. That’s when we ran into Frank, a kind
old man who offered us cookies and apples for free. We sat down with
him at a picnic bench enjoyed the surroundings as he gave us some
local history and some personal history. It was great to relax and
chat for a while.
There
was a small prison building left over from the wild west days that
Steven and I climbed into. Then we got back on the bikes and rode
the last 40 miles into Trinidad Colorado.
