Day-14

Vance comes to the rescue...
It was already 100 degrees at daybreak when the morning started
in a panicked rush to deal with the bike issues. James was
up at the crack of dawn and went out to sit in the Yukon and make
phone calls while the crew slept. “I wanted to let the crew
sleep so I went to the car, but it was so f*&@ing hot outside
it was miserable” laughed James. The first call was to Vance
Hunter, an interested fan who had been following our journey
through our website and had been in touch with us days earlier. He
lived in the area and had offered to help out in any way he could,
not knowing what he was about to get entangled in. He immediately
agreed to do what he could to help out and was able to find a couple
of bike shops that were willing to help us on such short notice. Vance
also offered to let us use his workshop for maintenance. Relieved
at the quick response and apparent solution to the bike challenge,
James woke the troops and we all headed into Broken Arrow to meet
up with our savior at the Honda/Suzuki dealership (Green Country
Cycle City). Things went smoothly but unfortunately it ate
up a chunk of our emergency fund, so that remains a challenge for
us to work out.
After
spending some time at Green Country Cycle City and expressing our
gratitude to the owner, we all headed to Vance’s shop to finish
the work that was needed. We were surprised to find that Vance had
a great collection of vintage motorcycles and muscle cars.
As if he hadn’t helped our cause enough already, Vance let us
set up shop in his workshop/garage and offered to put up the crew
until we were finished. We graciously accepted and got right to work.
After several hours of work, Vance and his family took us to a local
Mexican Restaurant and then paid for our meals despite our strong
objections. James, Chris and Michael were up until 5:00am
working on the bikes non-stop, but they got it done.
