Greetings once again, I hope this letter finds you all well. James headed out to California to shoot with Rick Johnson last week. He made a quick stop over in Tulsa, Ok to visit our friend and savior Vance Hunter. We met Vance on our trip last summer and crashed at his place for three days. Thanks Vance!

Anyway, Vance treated James to a tremendous dinner where James met Kieth Goudelock and Robert Merrifield two of Vance's friends who are very excited about RLT. That night James crashed in a hotel that he could only describe as "scary". I will let James tell you about the rest of his adventure.

Steven Beatty

I returned to Orange County and Started Location scouting the Santa Ana Mountains of Orange County for the shoot with Rick Johnson. That basically meant putting a lot of miles on my XR riding dirt roads and trails through the mountains attempting to find good locations for all the host segment shots needed for with RJ. I then took my D.P. on a tech scout of the locations to make sure that we would both be on the same page when the shoot happened. This consisted of driving up in our own chase vehicle, jumping and climbing over rocks and brush looking for the best shot angles, and of course making sure we had all the equipment we needed to film the host segment with RJ.

The shoot finally came: Rick Johnson is one of the coolest dudes. One of my crew members was supposed to show up with his pick-up truck to help carry equipment for the shoot. But, he over slept so RJ ended up bringing his pick-up truck to haul all the gear. As if that weren't enough to ask of RJ we then spent 12 hours driving through the mountains, shooting. We had no professional catering, just some handmade turkey sandwiches, water and Gatorade. Not only did my crew not complain, but neither did RJ.

Unfortunately, the day went very long and I had to let the crew and RJ go before we got all the shots we needed. He's graciously agreed to do some more shooting, but it's not easy trying to work it into his schedule.

So, needless to say, I'm still out in Cali. I've had to move from one friend's place to another friend's place in order to make sure I don't wear out my welcome. It's nice though as it gives me a chance to spend more time with more friends.

But it's a pain in the ass because I brought 2/3rds of my editing equipment with me. I needed to bring it because that's the only way I can continue to work on the film while I'm out here. It really sucks breaking it down, moving and setting it up again. But it's worth it to have some more time with Rick and to see some of my friends. The name of the game now is to continue to edit while I wait to find out when I can get more time with RJ to finish shooting.

Rick Johnson is racing in the CORR series this weekend in Pomona, CA. He invited me to check it out. I've just today given up on the idea of doing my favorite Triathlon here in CA which will be happening this weekend because I'm needing to get so much done. So it's a tough decision. I'd love to watch RJ race but I do have my film obligations. I haven't made up my mind yet what I'll do, it really depends on if I can find the time to break away to see RJ race... I hope I will. Speaking of which, check out this month's exclusive clip I put together of some of my time with RJ!

So once all of this shooting is done, I'll have the rest of the footage I need to finish the final trailer and the Pilot TV show. Then I'll be off to try to get RLT on a cable network, (hopefully Travel Channel or SPEED). It's all coming together though. Stay in touch... it's a real treat to get e-mails from you all.
Teaser #2
If you've been to our website recently, as we know you have, you'd know that we've got a new teaser trailer up for viewing! Whereas our first teaser trailer gave you a hint of the beautiful and constantly amazing country we crossed, this newest teaser trailer digs a little deeper.

You'll get to see a few of the friendly, curious folks we met along the way, get a flare for some of the challenges we faced, and just get more of an overall feeling of what it was like to cross the Trans America Trail as brothers. Plus it's longer.

We gaurantee you'll dig this newest teaser trailer while James and Rick Johnson film the narration stuff for our full length trailer.

SO CHECK OUT THE NEWEST TEASER TRAILER AND THEN GET EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO CHECK IT OUT!!!! THIS FILM IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!!
We've got a new My Space page! Right now it's pretty basic since we don't know how to use My Space, but there are some pictures posted there. Please feel free to check it out and if you have any suggestions or tips email us at newsletter@raodlesstraveledmovie.com We'd love to make our My Space page searchable to the public and learn how to do cool stuff with it. So really, if you have suggestions, please do let us know.

Other things to look forward to include the final trailer with Rick Johnson, and putting the pilot TV show of RLT together. That should be happening within the month of May and early June. Then from there it's time to sell the project as a short series to a cable network. We're hoping that the few contacts James has will pan out. Nonetheless, it's an exciting time for the "Road Less Traveled".

Don't forget to check out the May video clip, the newest teaser trailer, and to encourage your friends and family to sign up for the RLT Buzz newsletter!
